I don't do commercial, I work in million dollar plus residential homes so maybe the standards are different but flashing is not an issue at all around here if painted correctly, its not tolerated and why it's not an issue. If it is ur using shitty commercial grade paints and are not sealing it correctly at prime, this may be an issue but this issue is zero with any kind of quality paint, especially if primed right. If you have any differerence in how any subtrade absorbs paint, you didn't prime correctly, plain and simple.įlashing has nothing to do with dry wall mud or tape, nor the finish. But If sealed correctly, nothing should touch tape or mud, its sealed and bc you will get an even dry time and thus no flashing. Mud and tape absorb quicker so it dries faster, like you mentioned. You see flashing bc the paint dries at different rates.

That's 100% harder to do than to have no flashing interior as your going through the issue you speak of above, sun shining on it at angles ( and conatant as outside) but to the extreme as dry times are effected bc of direct sunlight and temps, which is the biggest issue in controlling flashing. We spray exterior houses in the sun with zero issues with flashing. I'm not saying this is what a level 5 finish is, I'm just saying no level of dry wall finish flashes if painted right. If ur getting flashing on dry wall ur painting is being done wrong plain and simple. If it's applied wrong and if it flashes, distances over 10 feet shouldn't matter, all will flash the same. And no if something is sealed correctly it will never flash, its the definition of why you seal lol.

Around here it's not a thing as it's just not acceptable, not matter what the finish level is. We deal with it rarely bc we spray stains exterior wise and sometimes in 90 degree days it's hard to stay into the wet if its a sun side but wtf kinda painters do you use that have any flashing for any reason interior lol. P.s I didn't even know flashing was a thing inside. If it's sealed and painted correctly, it won't flash I don't care how messy you make a taping seem. The finish of dry wall makes no difference in flashing.įlashing occurs when things are not sealed correctly, when things are not applied into the wet or things are not applied at the same sheen. But that has nothing to do if something will flash or not. You may see a height difference visually to the eye, meaning it's not smooth. The height of a finish won't cause flashing either.

As a professional painter and business owner why not prime and paint correctly? That is not what causes flashing.
